June 23,2013 - Liz was at the Reno Rodeo and her trusty horse spooked and caused trama to Liz's head. She was rushed to the hospital, underwent emergency surgery for a fractured skull and a brain bleed. Praise the Lord, she came through it and is back to riding and competing, strong as ever.
Now, less than 3 years after her accident, this is what Liz has to say about becoming HelmetTough.
The Lord has taken some time the last few months to remind me that, while He placed some amazing doctors and nurses in my life to put my head back together and I have had a truly miraculous healing, I now have screws and plates in my skull and it will never be as strong as it was before. So, after a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided I will be competing in a helmet. No one is more reluctant to trade out their cowboy hat for a helmet than me, but when I think about where I have been and how far I have come since my head injury, the helmet makes more sense. I would be lying if I said hitting my head wasn't always in the back of my mind. I would like to thank Fallon Taylor for changing the outlook on helmets so people like me can feel more confident about wearing one! #blessedbeyondmeasure
